Long Synopsis

His journey began when he was a humble Greek pirate, who befriended Catherine the Great of Russia and built a fortune out of sturgeon eggs, becoming an international caviar millionaire. His wealth and power, however, did not give him contentment, and his boundless ambition only brought suffering, until he gave everything away to help his motherland fight the Ottoman empire. This grand story of love, honor, betrayal and sacrifice is based on Varvakis’ real life adventures, from the Greek island of Psara to the court of Russia’s Great leader and the shores of the Caspian Sea, and then back to Greece, a country torn by civil war and the fight for independence.
