IOWA
"The most unflinching look yet at the meth pandemic that is sweeping across the Midwest."
- Monsters and Critics
"In movies, as in life, when young people with dreams but without the means to realize them choose to sell drugs as their ticket out,
we know there will be no happy endings. IOWA takes that dead-end premise and pushes it to the extreme."
- New York Times
"There are plenty of colorful, almost David Lynchian drug freakouts, as well as lots of sick violence. With a welcome supporting turn by John Savage, who still looks as confused as he did in 1970s films such as THE DEER HUNTER . . ."
- New York Post
"Fransworth turns in the best performance. His powerful, at times stunning, acting calls to mind what you'd get if you put Brad Pitt in a Martin Scorsese movie."
- Bill Reiter, Des Moines Register
". . . Farnsworth brings a scary energy to the social hellfire, and his newbie cast often out acts the pros . . ."
- Michael Atkinson, Village Voice
"Director Farnsworth has an eye for landscapes and a taste for the bizarre - and wife Foster has real camera presence." Chicago Tribune
"Diane Foster manages a simplicity and grace that so few of the actors can come anywhere near."
-IMDB.com
"The picture is more than interesting, and some of Farnsworth's choices in depicting a meth-head's wigged-out state are beautiful, hilarious, distrubing, and - yes, I'm going to say it - inspired."
-IMDB.com
"The film had me jumping out of my seat. IOWA plays like a Public Service Annoucement meets horror film meets rock video. It makes REQUIEM FOR A DREAM look like a knock knock joke."
-IMDB.com
"Altough it doesn't exploit violence and sexual excesses that are part of its landscape, it protrays them in unflinching realism."
-Ron Wilkinson
"The story and the characters in it are as real as the day is long and faithful to all that is good and bad about growing up with ever shrinking horizons."
- Monsters and Critics
"Farnsworth is a plains Woody Allen."

DETAILED SYNOPSIS:
Following the suspicious death of his father, Esper (Matt Farnsworth) and his lover Donna (Diane Foster) have been made recent beneficiaries to a large sum of insurance money. Hoping to escape their small town existence, they plunge into the world of crystal meth, soon becoming addicts. A dirty local parole officer, Larry (Michael T. Weiss), in cahoots with Esper’s mother, Effie (Rosanna Arquette), wants the money for himself. After conspiring to murder Esper’s father, they must now get rid of Esper. Esper finally snaps out of his drug-crazed delusion and decides he is not going down without a fight!
IOWA is a tale of love, violence and revenge, all played against an unnerving Midwestern backdrop to create one disturbing, but real story unlike any seen in recent filmmaking. Notable for its restraint and compassion, IOWA merits comparisons with other cautionary tales like Requiem For A Dream and Drugstore Cowboys and such lovers-on-the-lam classics as Bonnie & Clyde and Natural Born Killers.
Starring newcomers Farnsworth and Foster, IOWA also features compelling performances by film veterans John Savage (The Deer Hunter, The New World), Rosanna Arquette (Desperately Seeking Susan, Pulp Fiction), and Michael T. Weiss (Freeway).
