DETAILED SYNOPSIS:
When the Wright Brothers made their historic flight at Kitty Hawk, few people imagined the role aviation would play in future wars. The first aerial combat in the skies over France in WWI gave a dream to aviators everywhere of projecting ever-greater power through the air. "Wings of Glory" chronicles American airpower from its early beginnings, The United States Army Air Corps of WWII, to the birth of the Air Force in the first jet air-to-air combat in the crimson skies of Korea. Original archival images are filmed by the combat cameramen of America’s air services. In this two DVD presentation, you will discover how the Air Force grew from a few daring young men to a force with capabilities beyond the wildest dreams of the early aviation visionaries. This is the official story of the Air Force, the story of "Wings of Glory."

Military aviation grows from its beginnings at Kitty Hawk in 1903, to the audacious men in their flying machines of WWI and the development of air power between the wars. German and Japanese air forces gain the early advantage in WWII. The Allies, facing superior numbers and warplanes, struggle to fight back. Backed by American industrial strength, thousands of warplanes and aviation crews join the fray, with new generations of fighters and bombers. A truly global campaign for air supremacy begins against the Axis powers in the skies over Europe, North Africa and the Pacific.

The tide turns as the sheer numbers of warplanes and the aviation skill of the American and Allied aircrews expand their domination of the sky. Escorted by newer, faster fighters; larger and more deadly American bombers take the fight to the heart of fortress Europe, destroying the German war making capacity. Air power proves to be the deciding factor in modern warfare.
